Club Update

With football starting to come out of hibernation our thoughts are starting to turn to planning Shire’s return.

We still don’t have any official word and we are likely not to be able to resume training until early August at the earliest so any competitive fixtures look still to be a while away, potentially October fingers crossed.

Derek, Andy and The Directors have spent the lockdown planning various scenarios which like all clubs we have had to consider and try to plan the best we can without knowing how, when or if the club would get back playing.

The club took a very early decision that the right thing to do was honour all contracted players and staff’s salaries 100% through lockdown and as a club we are proud to say that was achieved and continues. Players & Staff commit to the club and it was only right the club committed to them.

The various fundraisers and unbelievably generous donations from our supporters and beyond that have supported the club through these hard and dark times has meant one thing, we can take “if” of the list as thanks to everyone who donated and the hard work of many the club will be ready for the 2020/21 season whenever that day is. Thank you to everyone who has helped raise over £7500 towards next season.

Remember you can still donate and help through our donate a ticket scheme

Over the coming days and weeks Derek will add to the players already committed. The squad will be smaller than last season and the club will not run a reserve side like before.

Already signed are Nicky Low, Jamie Dishington, Reis Peggie, Jordan Tapping, Marty Orr and Sean Brown. Add both Derek and Andy Rodgers in as well we have a fantastic platform to build upon to again challenge for the Lowland league title.

Further updates will happen as we have news.

June 100 Club Cash Draw and Shire Gnome Draw (Home of the Gnome)

The June 100 Club Cash Draw took place yesterday, live on facebook, by Scott Greenaway. The lucky winner was David Knott who won the £175 top prize. A massive thanks goes to David who exchanged his £175 top prize for the new ‘Shire home top 👍

At the same time the draw was made for the June Shire gnome and the winner was Mark Bantham.

Keep your 👀 peeled as our July draw will also include the new improved Shire Gnome😍

Well done to both winners.

Russell Sharp

The club are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of life long supporter Russell Sharp. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

Russell was a true Shire man all his days and the club has been in the Sharp family since the club was formed. With Russell’s passing the last living link to the original club has gone as his grandfather had played for the club as far back as 1881/82 and possibly in the formation year. His interest in the inner workings of the club was hereditary as Russell’s dad had been a board member and club treasurer back in the 1950s.

Russell was more than just a Shire fan, often he acted at times as the moral conscience of the club. He was a loyal supporter of the team (although he could be critical of results, players and managers just like anyone in the stands), but he was always the most consistent in holding the people who ran the club to account by persistently asking awkward questions of the powers that be.

“Sometimes he could be like a dog with a bone about an issue or a decision the board had made. Often he’d go away unsatisfied with the answer he’d been given but nobody ever went away without having listened to his passionate challenge.”

One thing Russell never lacked was a willingness to help the club in any way he could. Not all of that assistance was conventional. He was the man who gave us Shire whisky, for example, but he was always there to lend a hand and there were many acts of generosity that went completely unmentioned, all to help the club.

A familiar face who always had time to stop and talk about the Shire to anybody as well as welcoming new supporters over the years.

Russell will be missed by everyone at the Shire, a true gentleman and a friend to us all.

SPFL Reserve League Two 2019/20 Update

With the Leagues being halted early the SPFL Reserve League 2 has now been concluded on a points per game formula.

This has resulted in ‘Shire finishing in 3rd place. Well done to everyone who participated during the season.

East Stirlingshire FC 2020/21 Kit Sponsors

This year we carry a couple of sponsor logo’s close to the club’s heart.

Over the last few years and especially over the last few weeks Gordon Henderson and the guys at Foxlane Garden Centre have very generously supported the club. Our last two visits north in the Scottish Cup to Huntly and Formartine United Gordon organised and paid for pre-match meals for all the players and staff and over the last few weeks Gordie has supported the club in various ways.

As a club we though it only right to recognise Foxlane’s support and we carry Gordie’s logo with pride on the back of the Home Kit. Thank you Gordie and the Chuffers.

Covid-19 has struck local businesses hard and the Board of Directors though it only right that we support local business in any way we can through tough times who have supported us through the good and we are delighted to again carry The Canalside Bar and Grill logo for 2020/21. Over the last few years The Canalside Bar and Grill has regularly sponsored the club and we are delighted to carry their logo again as a thank you from the Shire family.

We also carry a Rainbow on the back of the home shorts with the message Thank You. A simple message but a heartfelt thank you to everyone working on the front line fighting Covid-19.

Forth Valley SANDS appears on the away shorts, a charity we have worked with over the last few years and again very close to the heart of the club.

East Stirlingshire FC 2020/21 Kit

Sometimes things are just meant to happen and this year’s kit is testament to that. Over the last few years supporters have always talked about the 1992/93 kit with either fondness or contempt, either way it has always been one of Shire’s most wanted kits.

Over the last few weeks we have been running a Shire kit World Cup and it was no surprise when the away blue Ellgren top came out as winner.

More strange was a chance conversation many weeks ago between Andy Williamson, Shire’s Club Secretary, and EV2 Sportswear’s owner, Darren Moore, when Darren mentioned that EV2 had just bought the Ellgren brand and that within the rights to designs was none other that a 1992/93 Shire kit. After that chance conversation there was only ever going to be one choice for 2020/21.

Thanks again to EV2 Sportswear for producing such a fantastic kit and supporting the club.

The very first Home Shirt has been kept aside and will be signed at the first match back for prize winner Tom Muirhead.

Kits are available via the online club shop via our website or via the EV2 website club shop.

Shirts Adults £39.99
