William (Bill , Willie) Cowan

We are very saddened to hear that Bill Cowan, a very special member of both the club Board and backroom staff at Firs Park, passed away peacefully yesterday aged 89.

Over many years Bill was always at Firs Park. Outwith his duties as a Director of East Stirlingshire FC he spend a large amount of time caring for the ground, washing the kits and helping the club without reserve in anyway he could. No one will forgot our 1st day each new season when we walked through the turnstiles at Firs Park to see the ground in all it’s resplendant glory, all thanks to Bill’s close season efforts.

He was a true unsung hero of the ‘Shire and will be sadly missed.

East Stirlingshire FC would like to pass on our condolences to Bill’s family at the very sad time.

Ernie Collumbine

It is with great sadness that the Club have learned of the passing of 1960s Shire player, Ernie Collumbine, on Wednesday 19th June after a long illness.

Born in Carronshore in 1938 Ernie started his football career with Bo’ness United before joining Stenhousemuir in March 1958. He was an integral part for the Warriors team for a number of seasons before joining the ‘Shire in 1961. Signed as a wing half Ernie soon became one of the 1st ever sweepers in the British game, a role in the ‘Shire’s 424 formation at that time in which he excelled. In 1962/63 ‘Shire won promotion to Division One with Ernie captaining the side, he was a virtual ever present in front of our defence. Ernie played for the club during our season in the top division in 1963/64 and was of the few ‘Shire players to move with the club in following season as part of the ill fated ES Clydebank episode. In 1965/66 he moved to St. Johnstone where he played for 1 season before returning to end his career at Clydebank from 1966/67 to 1968/69.

He will be sadly missed by everyone at the club.

We would like to pass on our condolences to Ernie’s family at this very sad time.
