HARDING SIGNS FOR SHIRE

Former Morton defender Ryan Harding has signed for Shire on an amateur basis.

The 25 year-old joined as a free agent after he negotiated his realease from the Cappielow club, however rules over signing outwith the transfer window means he cannot register as a professional.

But the 6'2'' Edinburgh-based player, who made more than 100 appearances for Morton, says he is just keen to try and build up his career again after recent injury setbacks.

"Last season I  picked up quite a bad injury and didn't play much at all. I  had an operation and got a pre-season in and started playing a few games again, but picked up a wee injury and then fell out of the plans.

"I just felt as though I  needed to play again and I  know Jim McInally from my old Morton daysand decided to give it a try."

Despite the injuries, Ryan says he is now fit and keen to get going again.

"I feel fine now. If I am being honest I picked up the last injury because I  was trying too hard to get back. I am ready to give it a go."

And he's already starting to feel at home with a Shire squad he feels he knows quite well.

"I only live about eight doors down the road from Michael Bolochoweckyj,"he said. "I know Jamie Stevenson from Morton and I  have played against guys like Simon Lynch and Eddie Forrest too."

Coach Jim McInally is delighted with his capture.

"Ryan is a big, strong player who is a good footballer too. He's another one who is probably too good to be playing at this level, but he has had some setbacksand just wants to get back again and enjoying his football."

Ryan spoke to shireTV  this week, watch the interview now by clicking on the shireTV  link and following the on-screen instructions.
